"The Most Educated City, Foreign-Born Majority and Election"
- Foreign-born people constituted the majority in six cities of 100,000 or more population at the beginning of the new millinneum -- two of them in Florida and four in California , according to an analysis of census results by the U.S. Census Bureau. More than 7-in-10 people in Hialeah , Florida , and about 6-in-10 (67%) in Miami were foreign-born, according to a recent Census brief. The foreign-born accounted for more than half the population in the California cities of Glendale , Santa Ana , Daly City and El Monte .
- With the 2004 Presidential Election in sight, there are some interesting facts to consider. Seventy-two percent of citizens ages 65 to 74 voted in the 2000 presidential election. This age group has the highest voting participation of any age group according to the Census. The question is will there be more of a turnout for 2004 after what happened in the 2000 election? Marketers should take note. Older citizens are a growing population and many are still active participants in society, as well as product and service consumers who should not be ignored.
